Responsibilities:
As a surgeon working with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders(MSF), you can help ensure access to lifesaving healthcare for people in need. MSF surgeons:
- prepare and carry out surgery according to priorities and MSF protocols
- manage operating room (OR) staffand resources
- monitor quality of care and hygienein the OR
- supervise and train staff
MSF surgeons are in charge of the pre and post-operative follow-up of patient sand are expected to carry out emergency and, at times, elective surgeries while ensuring that protocols are respected and quality standards met.
Essential requirements:
- full and current registration
- full surgery specialization and two years of surgery experience
- experience in emergency surgical situations, including orthopedic, trauma, and obstetric surgery (caesarean section, oophorectomy, dilation and curettage)
- experience providing pre- and post-operative care
- ability to work under basic conditions, with few resources and lack of diagnostic equipment (laboratory or X-ray)
- available to work two to three months
- experience supervising and training others
- strong command of English
Desirable experience:
- relevant travel or work experience in a developing country
- knowledge of other languages, especially French and Arabic
