Responsibilities:
As an obstetrician or gynecologist working with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), you can help ensure access to lifesaving healthcare for people in need. MSFobstetricians and gynecologists:
• implement and coordinate maternal and child health programs
• supervise and train staff
• support policy development
MSF’s locally-hired medical staff provide direct care. Obstetricians and gynecologists mainly supervise staff and provide trainings as needed. You will also be involved in hands-on assessment and treatment of women in areas where formal health systems are lacking. Depending onthe situation, you may be required to carry out surgery, perform needs assessments, or train locally-hired staff. You will also participate in collecting and analyzing data, as well as reporting.
Essential requirements:
• full and current registration
• specialization and minimum two years of work experience
• available to work three months or longer
• experience supervising, training and managing others
• experience in emergency obstetriccare, caesarean sections, assisted deliveries, hysterectomies
• strong command of English
• relevant travel or work experience in a developing country
Desirable experience:
• HIV, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, management of sexually transmitted infections, management of care for sexual assault survivors
• tropical medicine
• knowledge of other languages, especiallyFrench and Arabic
