Midwives

Responsibilities :

As a midwife working with Médecins SansFrontières/Doctors Without Borders(MSF), you can help ensure access to lifesaving healthcare for people in need.

MSF midwives:

  • implement and coordinate maternal health programs
  • supervise and train staff
  • support policy development

MSF’s locally-hired medical staff provide direct care. Expatriate midwives mainly supervise birth attendants and provide trainings as needed. You may be involved in hands-on assessment and treatmentof women in areas where formal health systems are lacking. Midwives are in charge of prenatal and antenatal consultations including counseling for family planning, as well as data collection,analysis and reporting.

Essential Requirements :

  • full and current registration
  • minimum two years relevant post qualification work experience
  • available to work six to 9 months
  • experience supervising, training and managing others
  • experience in medical and surgical termination of pregnancy, management of sexually transmitted infections, management of complicated deliveries in hospital settings, family planning
  • strong command of English
  • relevant travel or work experience in a developing country

Desirable experience

  • relevant experience in: HIV, prevention of mother-to-child transmission, neonatal resuscitation, care for sexual assault survivors, repair of third- and fourth-degree lacerations
  • course in tropical medicine
  • knowledge of other languages, especially French and Arabic
