Anaesthesiologists

Responsibilities:

As an anesthesiologist working with Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF), you can help ensure access to lifesaving healthcare for people in need. MSF anesthesiologists: 

• prepare and carry out anesthesia
• coordinate operating room staff
• supervise and train staff
• prepare anesthetic equipment 

MSF anesthesiologists manage the pre- and post-operative follow-up of patients. You will also participate in collecting and analyzing data, as well as reporting.

Anesthesiologists often have to work with basic equipment and in difficult conditions. Widest work experience described below is necessary, same as knowledge of using “oldschool” methods. Training for local staff about hygiene is also part of the work.

Essential requirements:

• full and current registration
• specialization and two years of work experience
• experience in pediatric, obstetric and trauma anesthesia
• extensive experience in spinal anesthesia and dissociative anesthesia (e.g. Ketamine)
• ability to work under basic conditions, without laboratory or X-rays and with minimal monitoring, life-support or ventilation equipment
• available to work two to three months
• experience supervising and training others
• strong command of English

Desirable criteria:

• relevant travel or work experience in a developing country
• knowledge of other languages, especially French and Arabic
