Water & Sanitation Specialists

MSF has a limited number of positions for experienced water and sanitation logisticians or engineers in our field projects.

Responsibilities:

As a water and sanitation expert working with Médecins Sans Frontières/DoctorsWithout Borders (MSF), you can help ensure access to lifesaving healthcare for people in need. MSF water and sanitation experts:

  • design and manage water and sanitation projects
  • supervise and train staff

MSF water and sanitation specialists must have formal training or extensive work experience in the specialty. Water projects can range from drilling bore wells in remote areas to setting up clean water sources in a refugee camp or managing the emergency provision of drinking water after a natural disaster. Sanitation work can involve building latrines or taking care of waste management in a hospital.

Essential requirements:

  • degree or related education in civil, geological, mechanical or environmental engineering with an emphasis on surface water, underground water, treatment, distribution and discharge
  • minimum two years relevant work experience
  • available to work six to 9 months
  • experience supervising, training and managing others
  • strong command of English
  • relevant travel or work experience in a developing country

Desirable experience:

  • experience or familiarity with health care waste management and vector control
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office software
  • knowledge of other languages, especially French and Arabic
