General Director of MSF Czech Republic

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Czech Republic is seeking a visionary and strategic leader to serve as its General Director.

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is one of the largest humanitarian and medical organizations in the world with projects in more than 70 countries. It focuses on providing emergency medical assistance to populations affected by wars, natural disasters or lack of basic health care. 

The main objectives of the MSF Czech Republic (MSF CZ) include recruiting new staff for missions abroad, acquiring donations and informing the public about the organisation's work in crisis areas. 

Cooperation in MSF CZ

MSF CZ is seeking a visionary and strategic leader to serve as its General Director. This role is responsible for the overall management of the MSF CZ office and team, ensuring the achievement of both short- and long-term strategic objectives. The General Director will oversee all activities in the Czech Republic, and as adequate in Slovakia, including Communications, Fundraising, Human Resources, and Finance, in alignment with MSF’s core values and principles.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the development and implementation of multi-year strategic plans and annual action plans.
  • Represent MSF in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, including legal representation and public advocacy.
  • Represent MSF in the media, including public advocacy, ensuring accurate and impactful communication of MSF’s mission and activities.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, civil society, donors and the humanitarian and medical communities.
  • Oversee recruitment of internationally mobile staff and office personnel.
  • Ensure high standards of financial accountability and transparency.
  • Inspire and manage a team of 40+ staff, fostering a professional and value-driven work environment.
  • Support collaboration with the MSF Shared IT Service Center (SITS) hosted in the Czech Republic.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 5 years of senior management experience (ideally in in the humanitarian or aid sector)
  • Experience in humanitarian work at a senior level; MSF field experience is a strong asset
  • Fluent in English and Czech/Slovak; French is an additional asset
  • Strong strategic planning, leadership, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong negotiation and public relation skills
  • Proven analytical and political skills, including ability to negotiate and advocate to diverse audiences
  • Ability to meet timelines and work under pressure and deliver high quality
  • Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and complex projects
  • Strong affinity with the MSF Charter and commitment to the humanitarian principles of MSF: independence, impartiality and neutrality
  • Willingness to travel internationally, including field visits
  • Familiarity with the Czech and Slovak NGO and political sectors
