Midwives
Currently, MSF also has a large need for midwives. Comparatively, midwives may only be a small group in the MSF projects; however, their importance is immense. The World Health Organization estimates that over 600.000 women die each year as a result of pregnancy. Within the framework of projects from MSF, it is the goal of midwives to fight against this and against the high mortality rate of newborns.
During their missions, the main focus of the midwives' work has less to do with immediate care of pregnant women or delivering babies. It has much more to do with training traditional midwives, making them aware of the minimum standards of hygiene, training them as much as possible in the early recognition of problem pregnancies and providing them with the means and knowledge of how to help women at risk. Especially in the area of birth assistance, respect for different cultural circumstances is a must.Special Requirements:
- Midwife degree
- Two years of practical experience after attainment of degree
