Other medical specialists

Along with surgery and anesthesiology, gynecology, pediatrics and internal medicine are the most frequent medical specializations involved in the projects of MSF. The tasks are similar to those of the general medical practitioners, but there are different points of emphasis according to each of the respective specializations. At this point in time, there is an especially large need for gynecologists/obstetricians, since women's care is the central point in many areas of our work. MSF also increasingly carries out vertical programs in order to fight against so called "neglected diseases" like tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, sleeping sickness, and malaria. The central point of all missions is the education and supervision of local personnel. Along with medical activity, data collection and contact with local authorities are also very important.

Special Requirements:
  • Completed medical specialist training
  • Ideally:
Training in tropical medicine or other additional knowledge (Public Health, Epidemiology, Nutrition, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS etc.)
  • At least nine months of availability for a mission
