General requirements
MSF provides efficient emergency medical aid, and accordingly, makes certain demands of our volunteers. In order to be able to meet the challenges of missions, a mixture of commitment, idealism and professionalism is important.
The following requirements must be met:- Completed professional training with at least two years of professional experience (such as completed practical training)
- Fluency in English, both written and spoken. French, Spanish, Portuguese, and any other foreign languages would be an advantage
- At least nine months of availability for a mission (for surgeons and anesthesiologists shorter terms can be available)
- Flexibility, as well as organizational and improvisational talent
- Ability to supervise and train others
- Ability to work as part of a team and the ability to handle high levels of physical and emotional stress
- International experience (professional or long-term private foreign residence)
- Readiness to work in the spirit of the humanitarian principles of MSF
- For general medical practitioners and nursing personnel: tropical medicine or other specialization (Public Health, Epidemiology, etc.)are highly recommended.
- For Logistical specialists: completed relevant professional training, extensive technical and craftsmanship skills, as well as knowledge of bookkeeping
